Three frames
A small gallery of Steffen Bilger, shown as the photographers framed them: a formal studio portrait, an unguarded moment in an office and a working session at the Federal Ministry for Transport. Nothing is cropped and nothing is enlarged beyond its original size.

Section B — about these pictures
Reading a political photograph
Political photography is rarely neutral. A portrait is chosen to convey seriousness or warmth; a meeting picture shows a minister at work; a gesture caught between formal moments can travel further than any statement.
The three pictures here show different registers. The studio portrait is the kind of image a politician or ministry uses for official purposes: frontal, evenly lit, in a dark suit. The informal portrait, with the Baden-Württemberg flag in the background, shows a gesture that belongs to the language of social media and campaigning rather than of government. The table photograph, taken in a meeting room with name cards, documents the routine of a ministry, where much of the work happens in consultation rounds rather than at a lectern.
None of the pictures is dated in the material available to this site, and none is used here to illustrate a specific event. For dated photographs, such as the oath of office on 8 September 2026 or the 2019 Bundestag speech, see the pages listed below, where captions give the occasion and credit.
Rights and credits
This site does not own or license these photographs for reuse. No photographer credit could be established for the three images on this page, so none is given; a credit will be added if one is confirmed. Where credits are known for other images on the site, they appear in the caption on the page concerned, including the Creative Commons licence of the 2019 Bundestag picture and the agency credits of the oath and handover pictures. For official, licensed press photographs of the minister, consult the Federal Ministry for Transport or the Federal Government's photo services; for questions about this site, see press material.
Display principles
- Every image is shown complete, in its original aspect ratio.
- No image is enlarged beyond its natural pixel width, so small pictures stay small rather than blurred.
- Captions describe what is visible. People other than Bilger are not named unless a published source identifies them.
- Each photograph appears on one page only.
A dated picture trail
Photographs that mark a moment
Unlike the three undated frames above, some photographs on this site record a specific day. Read in sequence, they trace his route from parliamentarian to minister. Each link opens the page where the picture is published.

A note on Creative Commons
Some photographs of public figures are published under Creative Commons licences on Wikimedia Commons. A licence such as CC BY-SA 3.0 DE allows reuse, including commercial reuse, on condition that the photographer is named, the licence is stated and adaptations are shared under the same terms. Agency photographs, such as those from dpa or picture alliance, are licensed commercially and cannot be reused without the agency's permission. When in doubt, the credit line printed under each picture on this site states what is known.
